Recent updates: Triple Chocolate Cake & Sticky Toffee Pudding

We’ve recently been working on a couple of new recipes at Thomas the Baker that I’m especially excited about and have just released into the shops: a Triple Chocolate Cake and a Sticky Toffee Pudding. The Triple Chocolate Cake, as seen in the above picture, is a rich chocolate sponge cake containing dark Belgian chocolate chunks and topped with Belgian milk chocolate chips (these are my personal favourite ingredient in the bakery!); a generous slice of this is perfect with a cup of tea in the afternoon. It is available for only £2 in our shops. The Sticky Toffee Pudding is a super indulgent dessert; a luscious toffee pudding made with butter, dates and golden syrup, topped with lashings of our homemade sticky toffee sauce. This can be heated up in the microwave or in the oven following the instructions on the label for a taste of luxury in the evenings with a scoop of proper vanilla ice cream or…

Market Street Store Open Day

About a month ago, we mentioned that our Market Street shop in York would be having an Open Day to allow customers to get to know the team at the shop a bit more, to take part in a few competitions, to sample a few goodies, see our new product ranges and meet Gingy the Gingerbread Man. The Open Day took place on the 30th May and we had a fantastic time. Andy Bartlett and Steve Cockayne came down to York for the day, and they as well as the team at the Market Street shop met plenty of our customers and got to chat to them. As you can see above, Andy was handing out several samples including biscuits to those that came out for the day and balloons for our younger customers. He introduced a few of our most popular products, including the old favourites, as well as the latest range of ready meals, jams and preserves, puddings and frozen…

Soup Pots: Tomato Soup

I hinted to you about the possibility of Thomas the Baker starting to offer Soup Pots in the near future in my post to do with Porridge Pots, and fortunately they’ve passed the all important taste test, so starting tomorrow, there will be freshly made tomato soup available in these handy little pots in our shops. The soup is homemade (check with my mum to find out the mess my dad has been making in her kitchen while coming up with the recipe!) with fresh garden vegetables including onion, carrot, celery, tomatoes and zingy basil. The soup can be bought in these pots chilled in the shop  for £1.25 to eat at home or heat up in your office for your lunch later, or you can ask for it to be heated up in most of our shops with a white or brown softy roll to be eaten on the go for £1.65. I know sometimes on my lunch break…

Artisan Bread Range

One of the things we’ve always been very proud of at Thomas the Baker is our bread, and recently we’ve been delving into artisan breads. They say man cannot live on bread alone, but with our new range, you’re going to want to give it a good try. We’ve been selling all sorts of loaves for many years and perfected the recipe on some old favourites and classic breads such as our Country Crunch, Fireside Toastie, and Ciabatta, using only the finest ingredients that have been tried and tested many times to bring you only the best. But we’re now making it easier for you to have freshly baked artisan breads at home with our range of par-baked loaves. Our artisan loaves combine ancient and established techniques of breadmaking to produce the best texture, taste and freshness. They are made freshly by hand every single day, in the (very!) early hours of the morning at the bakery and sealed up…

All Butter Soft Fudge

I hope you all enjoyed your taster of fudge from our last post, and now we’ve got a bit more to say about it today! The last time we mentioned our fudge, it had only just been released into the shops and came in a cellophane wrapping tied with a ribbon. Though we’d already perfected our recipe at this point for chunky pieces of fudge which had that rich butteryness of Scottish tablet and a smoothly soft centre reminiscent of American style fudge, we hadn’t yet perfected the packaging, so we’re now releasing the fudge in a slightly different package as above. The tray of fudge, as well as being an indulgent treat for yourself, is the perfect gift for friends and family with its luxury “chocolate box” appeal – I’ve already bought it as a housewarming present for a friend! Handmade at our own bakery, it’s delightfully different to other fudges out there but still has that comforting creamy…
