John Thomas, founder of Thomas the Baker, established the family business in the beautiful market town of Helmsley in 1981.
The key ethics of freshness, quality, value for money and the importance of the team are still as crucial today as they were 35 years ago. It's our ambition to give you the best bakery products you can buy. And it doesn't come any fresher than this! Our bread is often still piping hot when it arrives in our shops at 7:00am each morning.
We now have 35 bakery shops in and around Yorkshire in towns including York, Scarborough, Harrogate, Darlington, Helmsley, Beverly, Bedale and Skipton. At each one the ovens are busy throughout the day baking our award winning Curd Tarts, Sausage Rolls and H'eccles Cakes amongst an array of other delicious freshly baked products.
We like to keep it local, so wherever possible we buy our raw materials from businesses in the Yorkshire region. Around 65% of these are locally sourced including dairy, meat and wheat. A further 20% is UK sourced and the remaining ingredients are imported from reputable international sources. For some reason our Yorkshire farmers have difficulty growing cocoa beans and dates!
