John Thomas, founder of Thomas the Baker, established the family business in the beautiful market town of Helmsley in 1981.
From humble beginnings making and baking delicious Chorley cakes in the kitchen, to a highly successful family bakery offering the best in Yorkshire fare, our award winning family owned business has grown to become synonymous with high-quality, delicious, honest home-baked Yorkshire food.
Each day we proudly produce a wide range of fresh baked bread, rolls, mouth-watering cakes, pastries, delicious pies and pasties as well as freshly made sandwiches for customers to enjoy. We now have thirty four bakery shops in and around Yorkshire in towns including York, Scarborough, Harrogate, Darlington, Helmsley, Beverly, and very recently Bedale.
Although we plan to grow further we remain true to our roots and our founding philosophy “What isn’t sold today won’t be sold tomorrow”
