A local lad through and through, Chris's roots are firmly placed in Norton.
After a brief stint working in his aunt's post office in Langholme, Scotland, he returned to Norton to work on a local farm. Chris cycled 12 miles to work every day. Working around the farm it became clear he had a leaning towards engineering. Soon after, Chris joined a local engineering company, Neaco, who specialized in producing balustrades and balconies, following this he moved onto Malton Bacon Factory (now known as Karro Food Group) to join the engineering team. Chris stayed here for 18 years, eventually becoming Engineering Manager. Chris has developed a wide range of electrical, mechanical, construction and refrigeration skills over the years.
Chris has now been with Thomas the Baker since 2008 and gets involved in everything from fixing gutters and leaky taps to project managing rebuilds and new shop fits. There's nothing he enjoys more than finishing off a shop refit at 1am in the morning ready for the shop to open early the next day!
Chris has a few pals in the racing industry, when he gets chance loves a day at the races, and if pressed will occasionally share a good tip! As a former Malton Rugby Club member, Chris has taken a few 'knocks' in his time. Now of an age where 'touch rugby' might be a better option, he unwisely agreed to play in the 'XV Veterans Charity Team' last September raising money for the 'Ryedale Special Families' and 'Encephalitis Society'. The result can only be described as leaving him battered and bruised!
Aside from the usual family holidays, Chris enjoys nothing more than getting away with his son Thomas for a few days. They like to discover the culture and history of European cities visiting war museums and sites of interest, and of course taking the opportunity to refresh themselves with some of the local brew!
