My name is Sian Thomas, daughter of Simon, granddaughter of John and Valerie, who along with my uncle, Gareth, started up Thomas the Baker more than 30 years ago. They’ve decided to get a bit closer to their customers via the internet and asked me to get involved, so I’m going to be bringing you a bit of news, some updates from the craft bakery including new products and shops news. But we’re also going to get a bit more interesting than that and include other exciting things such as interviews with staff members and local chefs, some tutorials on how to create or use some of our products, and answering any questions you’ve got about Thomas’ or baking in general.

So a little about the bakery to get you started. As I mentioned, it was more than 30 years ago that the bakery started up at my grandparents’ house with my dad and uncle also involved, making chorley cakes (from the story they’ve told me, out of the garage!). And from there on, it’s gone from strength to strength. There are now 36 Thomas the Baker shops dotted around Yorkshire (and a few breaking the bounds including Darlington and Bishop Auckland) and more recently a wonderful delicatessen and butchers called Thomas of Helmsley, no surprise that this shop is in located Helmsley. It truly is still a family business, with my grandad, dad and sister all working in the bakery on a daily basis.

And they’ve finally caught up with technology and started up an online store where some great new products and concepts are about to be launched. As yet, there aren’t a huge number of products on there, but it’s a great sampling of what we’ve got to offer.

So we’ll be back soon with some Cheese Straw news for you; an introduction to some of the people and places that make the magic happen; and if you’re lucky, a few discount codes and offers. If there’s anything you’re interested in finding out about how Thomas’ operates or if you have any questions about products, let us know and we’ll do our best to answer them for you.

Make sure you don’t miss out on anything exciting by following our Twitter account where we’ll let you know about all the latest posts, or sign up to get an email when a new post goes live (in the side bar). Looking forward to seeing you around here!

PS: The above picture is one of my favourite products from the website, and one I got to test while it was in production, the Belgian Chocolate Tiffin, which is just as yummy as it looks and sounds!

Welcome to the Thomas the Baker blog!
